Lucy Hutchings

Lucy Hutchings is CCO and co-founder of She Grows Veg Heirloom Seeds, a seed hunter, veg growing expert, photographer, writer, broadcaster and public speaker. She Grows Veg began as a passion project rooted in Lucy's personal journey into food growing, built on the back of her organically grown social media following before evolving into a fully-fledged business. The brand's Instagram account, @shegrowsveg, now has over a quarter of a million followers, making it one of the most influential food-growing communities on the platform.

 Hailing from a background in the fashion industry, Lucy's eponymous jewellery label was favoured by celebrities including Cheryl, Kylie Minogue, Billie Piper and Lady Gaga, for whom she regularly created bespoke pieces for TV appearances and photo shoots. Having become disillusioned with the industry, she followed a passion for growing food, and now uses her design skills to help people find a way to become more self-sufficient. 

A great believer that an edible garden can also be a beautiful one, Lucy has designed show gardens for Hampton Court 2021 and Gardeners World Live 2023. She Grows Veg displays have won two gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show and have been repeatedly featured in the show's broadcast coverage. She is a regular thought leader and panel speaker for the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), contributing expert insight on sustainable food growing and social media in horticulture.

 Her debut book Get Up and Grow focused on integrating food growing into interiors for design-conscious individuals with small spaces. Lucy is a sought-after public speaker, regularly addressing audiences on the subjects of homesteading, food growing, and creating beautiful edible gardens both in the UK and US. She has also written for multiple publications including Homes & Gardens, Woman's Weekly, Bloom, The Simple Things and Countryside Magazine.

On screen, Lucy has appeared on CBeebies, Saturday Kitchen, BBC's Gardeners' World, and BBC and ITV news programmes. She also holds a regular slot on BBC Radio Suffolk, where she shares her expertise with a loyal regional audience.

In 2022, Lucy undertook a year-long project to build a self-sufficient eco-homestead with partner and adventurer chef Mike Keen, which was the subject of an episode of Build a Dream Home in the Country with Mark Millar on Channel 5.
